How You Can Get Involved This Trustees' Week

Megan Raybould

01 November 2020

Trustees' Week has finally arrived - find out how you can get involved.

Aspiring Young Trustees

USE TRUSTEES' WEEK TO FIND YOUR DREAM ROLE

Many trustee boards want to recruit young trustees, but don't know where to look. We're campaigning for more trustee boards to use an open recruitment process to change this, in the meanwhile many aspiring young trustees are connecting with boards directly. If you're looking for inspiration, check out how Renee Campbell did this.

Trustees' Week is an opportunity for you to to network for your dream role, use social media to help you.

Below is an example of template you can use on Twitter:

This #TrusteesWeek I have made a pledge to the @youngtrustees movement to apply and seek out trustee roles.

I am particularly interested in…

Please get in touch if you have any contacts or know of any opportunities to support me with this!

Below is an example of template you can use on Linkedin:

Fewer than 3% of trustees are under 30. That is a problem as boards without #YoungTrustees are less able to navigate uncertainty, future proof decisions and reflect the interest of their communities.

Therefore, this #TrusteesWeek I have made a pledge to the @youngtrustees movement to apply and seek out trustee roles.

I am particularly interested in…

Please let me know if you have any contacts or know of any opportunities to support me in this!

Young Trustees

YOU ARE THE 3%, YOU INSPIRE CHANGE:

Our biggest campaigning tool is your story.

As a young trustee, you are breaking down stereotypes for boards who don’t have young people represented.

By telling your story on social media, you will inspire change.

Here is a template post for you to share:

I'm one of only 3% of trustees who are under 30. That's a problem.

Without a diversity of perspectives boards are less able to navigate uncertainty.

This #TrusteesWeek join us in being part of the solution.

How to get your message out there:

We need everyone to help spread the message

If you only have 30 seconds: Share this tweet.

If you have 5 minutes: Forward this email to your networks.

If you have 1 hour: Attend our board diversity champion training (you can also use this as an opportunity to network with charity leaders).

If you are attending an event this week, ask a question to put young trusteeship on the agenda. Below is an example question you could ask:

"Less than 3% of charity trustees are under 30. When a charity has a limited diversity of perspectives on their board - it means they are less able to navigate uncertainty, future proof decisions and reflect the interests of the community. What does the panel think can be the best way to solve this?"

Don’t forget to tag us on social to let us know what you asked!
